Understanding Tippah County Released Inmates
A release ends one identified custodian's control. It does not always mean freedom from all custody. The Tippah County Sheriff is the county jailor and keeps the jail docket. That record can show when a person booked out of the Tippah County Jail, also called the Law Enforcement Center. The reason and destination still matter. Bond, dismissal, time served, sentence completion, or a court order may lead into the community. A state sentence or detainer can instead lead to MDOC, another county, ICE, the U.S. Marshals Service, or another agency.
The strongest local proof joins three records. The sheriff's bookout entry establishes the end of Tippah custody. The court's order or disposition explains the legal authority. A receiving-agency result shows whether custody continued elsewhere. This sequence prevents a transfer from being called a community release. It also explains why a name that has vanished from a current jail view is only a clue, not proof.
| Release path | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | A court permits release under stated terms after all holds clear. | Court order plus sheriff bookout |
| Dismissal or court order | A charge or custody basis ends, though other holds may remain. | Disposition plus full booking record |
| Time served or local sentence end | The local custody term is complete. | Sentence and exact bookout time |
| Parole or ERS | Physical prison custody may end while MDOC control continues. | MDOC record and supervision status |
| Transfer or detainer pickup | Tippah custody ends but another custodian takes control. | Bookout destination and receiving locator |
- Bookout
- The recorded end of a stay in the county jail.
- Discharge
- An official end of a sentence or supervision status shown by the issuing agency.
- Detainer
- A request from another authority to hold or transfer a person.
- ERS
- Earned Release Supervision, a community placement that remains under MDOC jurisdiction.
Tippah County Release Record Fields
A Tippah County release record should answer when custody ended, why it ended, and where the person went. A preserved July 2023 jail report is a current-inmate snapshot, not a release list. Still, it reveals the local database vocabulary. Its fields include name, ID, booking date and time, placement, arresting agency, Bookout Date, Time Served, booking number, warrant number, charge, offense status, bond, court, court date, charge type, and bond status. Bookout Date is mostly blank in that report because the people shown were then in custody.
Request the whole booking and bookout record. One charge row can be closed or bonded while another hold remains open. “Time Served” can be an elapsed-duration field rather than the legal reason for release. The court name routes the search for the order, while Bookout Date marks the jail event. Neither field should be read without the rest of the record.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking number | Links the person, booking sheet, photo, charges, and bookout event. |
| Booking date and time | When the recorded jail stay began, not a conviction date. |
| Exact bookout date and time | When Tippah County ended that jail stay. |
| Release authority or type | The bond, order, sentence event, or agency action supporting the move. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether the person entered the community or continued in custody. |
| Hold disposition | Whether detainers and other agency holds cleared or caused transfer. |
| Court and case number | Points to the durable order or disposition behind the custody change. |
Note: A release date without its reason and destination cannot distinguish community release from a transfer to another custodian.
Bond Status Versus Tippah Release
The local jail schema shows why “bonded” and “released” are not synonyms. A booking can contain several charges and holds. One charge may be bonded or closed while an MDOC detainer, probation hold, municipal charge, out-of-state hold, or another county warrant remains. Staff must clear the whole booking before a community bookout can occur.
Ask a precise question: “Has this person physically booked out, at what date and time, and were they released to the community or transferred?” A bond receipt or order helps, but it does not answer every part. The sheriff's bookout destination completes the proof. If another agency picked up the person, search that agency next.
Request Tippah County Release Records
No official Tippah online release form, records email, fee schedule, office hours, or retention term was published. Start with the Tippah County Sheriff's Office and ask how it accepts a written request. A narrow request is easier to locate. Use a full name plus a date of birth, booking ID, case number, arresting agency, or short date range when known.
- Call 662-837-9336 and confirm the current submission method before sending the request.
- Ask for the booking sheet, jail-docket entry, and exact bookout date and time.
- Request the release authority, destination, receiving agency, hold dispositions, and associated court or case number.
- Request an electronic copy, a fee estimate, and all segregable nonexempt portions if redaction is needed.
- Pair the result with the court order and any receiving-agency record.

Mississippi's Public Records Act permits reasonable written procedures and actual-cost fees. If no procedure exists, access is due within one working day. A procedure cannot authorize final production or denial later than seven working days without a detailed written explanation. When production cannot occur by then, the agency must give a date, ordinarily no later than fourteen working days unless the requester agrees otherwise. The exact price is not known in advance because Tippah publishes no schedule.
Tippah County Release Records Law
Mississippi Public Records Act guidance explains the access, timing, written-denial, redaction, and actual-cost rules in Title 25, Chapter 61. Miss. Code §19-25-63 also requires sheriffs to keep specified jail records. Tippah's official sheriff page confirms that the sheriff keeps the jail docket. These rules support a focused request for existing booking and bookout entries, not a demand that the office create a new report.
Some material can be withheld or redacted. Juvenile, medical, investigative, victim, witness, security, sealed, and expunged material may be protected. Expungement is a court process that limits public access to a qualifying record. It is not automatic. Tippah publishes no jail-retention schedule online, so ask whether the record and booking image still exist and consult current local-government retention guidance. A lone archived report does not establish the sheriff's retention policy.
The official Ethics Commission matter R-24-009 involved the Tippah County Sheriff's Office and was categorized for response time and denial. The metadata confirms the matter and categories, but any precise holding must come from the final order. It should not be stretched into a broader claim.
Note: Ask for a written exemption citation when material is withheld and accept redacted, segregable portions that can lawfully be released.
Court Records Confirm Tippah Releases
The court printed beside a charge is the best path to a durable disposition record. Tippah's historical report names Justice Court, Circuit Court, and the Ripley, Walnut, and Blue Mountain municipal courts. It also shows Chancery and other agency holds. The right clerk depends on the charge. Circuit Court files felony criminal papers and judgments. Justice Court handles county misdemeanors, DUI, county ordinance matters, and initial felony proceedings. A municipal charge belongs with the named city's clerk.
Request the docket sheet and the exact order: judgment, sentence, dismissal, nolle prosequi entry, bond or release order, revocation, or amended order. A court paper explains why custody should change. It may not show when jail staff finished the physical release process. For that reason, pair the clerk's document with the sheriff's later bookout timestamp.
The Tippah County Circuit Clerk page identifies the office's criminal-record role. Its captured view helps locate the clerk path, while the sheriff remains the source for physical bookout.
The clerk record and jail entry serve different roles. Use both whenever a precise release claim matters.
Justice Court and Tippah Releases
Tippah County states that Justice Court judges hold jail sessions three times each week to provide initial appearances within three days of arrest. That schedule can explain why a newly booked person still awaits a first court step. It is not a release calendar, and it does not show when jail staff will complete bookout.
Use the court session to find the legal action, then use the sheriff's record to confirm physical departure and destination. A same-day release order may precede bookout. Another hold can also prevent release after one matter is resolved. No official Tippah release-hour, weekend schedule, pickup point, or processing estimate was found.
Does a court dismissal prove release? No. It resolves a legal basis on one matter. The full booking may still carry another court charge or agency hold, and only the bookout row shows what the jail did.
Find Tippah County Released Inmates
There is no verified official Tippah live roster, 24-hour feed, or 72-hour feed. Start by naming the last custodian, not by treating one search as universal. A county detainee follows the sheriff and local-court path. A state prisoner belongs in MDOC systems. Federal and immigration custody use separate federal locators. Mississippi SAVIN/VINE can provide a fast status clue for participating county and MDOC records, but the source agency should confirm any notice.
- Check Mississippi SAVIN/VINELink for a matching person and compare identifiers, not the name alone.
- Ask the sheriff whether the person physically booked out, when it occurred, and where the person went.
- Check every hold and obtain the order from the court named on each relevant charge.
- Search MDOC if a state sentence or transfer is possible, including its separate inmate and parolee searches.
- Use BOP for federal prison custody or ICE ODLS after a confirmed immigration transfer.
- Request formal county or state records when public search results are missing or unclear.
For a narrow same-day window, the resolved 24-Hour Releases page explains the date-bounded jail-docket request. For a named person, the steps above remain the full proof chain.
MDOC Tippah County Release Search
The Mississippi Department of Corrections presents separate Inmate Search and Parolees Search routes. The inmate search is oriented toward active MDOC custody. It accepts a name or MDOC ID. A detail can show a photo, birth date, physical description, Entry Date, Current Location or Unit, Location Change Date, sentence data, conviction county, and Tentative Release Date. A future tentative date and current unit mean state custody continues. The field is an estimate, not proof that release occurred.
The parolee search accepts first and last name or MDOC ID and can narrow by city or county. A matching detail may show county, supervising officer, and Flat Time Date. That match supports current conditional community parole, not final discharge. If neither public search finds a former state prisoner, request the nonexempt inactive-master-file and discharge material from MDOC Records. Completed sentences and supervision can move out of live public search views.
| Search field | Use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Starts inmate or parolee matching. | Compare birth date and IDs before selecting. |
| MDOC ID | Provides a more exact state-system match. | Applies only to a person in MDOC's system. |
| City or county | Narrows the parolee search. | Does not prove a county-jail bookout. |
| Current Location/Unit | Shows active MDOC placement. | A movement date is not a release date. |
| Tentative Release Date | Shows an MDOC estimate. | It can change and is not actual release. |
| Flat Time Date | Appears on a parolee detail. | It is not the physical jail-release date. |
The captured MDOC home screen shows the two entry points side by side.
Choosing the correct form avoids confusing active prison custody with conditional release on parole.
Note: Search absence may reflect discharge, completed supervision, spelling, transition, or no MDOC role; it is not a release status.
Tippah County Release Status Channels
Mississippi SAVIN/VINE tracks events from participating county jails and MDOC. Events can include transfer, rehousing, return to custody, escape, supervision absconding, and release. A result may display released or out-of-custody language after the source system reports the change. Alerts can lag or repeat. Confirm them with the jail or MDOC, especially when family cannot reach the person.
Parole is an early conditional release granted by the Mississippi State Parole Board and supervised by MDOC Community Corrections. Probation is imposed by a circuit judge. ERS is another conditional placement in which the person remains under MDOC jurisdiction and keeps inmate status until sentence expiration. The Tippah Probation & Parole Office is a supervision office, not a jail bookout desk. Its public page lists no hours, so call before visiting. The separate MDOC searches and local office serve different parts of the verification process.
No official Tippah or statewide public absconder list was located. A missing parolee result must never be turned into an absconder claim. Ask Community Corrections or the proper court or law-enforcement source for a current status.
Tippah Release Lookup by Custodian
Released and still in custody are proved through different records. The same is true for county, state, federal, and immigration systems. Use the system tied to the actual custodian and then confirm the result at its source.
| Situation | Where to look | What it can establish |
|---|---|---|
| Current Tippah jail stay or county bookout | Sheriff jail docket and named local court | End of Tippah custody plus legal authority |
| Active state custody | MDOC Inmate Search | Current unit and tentative date |
| Current parole | MDOC Parolee Search and Community Corrections | Conditional community parole status |
| Completed MDOC sentence or supervision | MDOC Records and inactive master file | Actual discharge record |
| Federal prison release | BOP Inmate Locator and federal court | Departure from BOP custody and case context |
| Immigration transfer | ICE ODLS and the relevant ERO office | Current ICE detention, not a historic release archive |
BOP records generally cover federal inmates from 1982 forward. A past Release Date and “RELEASED” location mean the person is no longer in BOP custody, but another form of control may follow. ICE ODLS is built mainly for current detention. No ICE result does not prove community release. USMS movements require the federal case and clerk path because there is no broad USMS historical release locator.
Former Jail and Current Release Desk
The former Tippah County Jail stands at 200 West Spring Street. Mississippi archival records identify it as a 1938 building designed by N.W. Overstreet and A. Hays Town. It became a Mississippi Landmark in 2002 and contributes to the Ripley Historic District. That local history can cause real wayfinding confusion because the active Law Enforcement Center is nearby at 205 West Spring Street.
The landmark is not an active jail, release desk, or public-record counter. Current release questions belong with the Tippah County Sheriff's Office at the active center. The distinction also prevents a historical building page or image from being treated as present-day custody evidence.
Note: Use 205 West Spring Street for the active sheriff and jail record path, and call before visiting because hours are unpublished.
Tippah County Release Facility
The facility map contains one active detention entry: the Tippah County Jail / Tippah County Law Enforcement Center. It is operated by the Tippah County Sheriff's Office. A person may leave for the community after bond, dismissal, time served, a court order, or completion of a local sentence. The same bookout can instead record a transfer to MDOC, another county, or another agency. The destination field is essential.
Tippah County Jail / Law Enforcement Center is the one local facility page. No separate state prison, federal prison, ICE detention center, regional correctional facility, or independently operated municipal jail was verified within Tippah County. Municipal courts may still hold the durable disposition for city charges, and state-sentenced people may move to MDOC facilities outside the county.
